Nyema Droma is a Tibetan photographer, currently based in Lhasa, Tibet. In 2015, and after completing a BA degree in Fashion Photography and Styling, at the London College of Fashion, Nyema returned to Lhasa to open her own photography studio. She is one of the most exciting talents to emerge from a new wave of young contemporary Tibetan artists. Through her stylistic portraits, Nyema manages to capture Tibet´s unique and real identity and provide information on how the Tibetan traditional Cultural Heritage is blending with the society’s transition through modernity and progresses through post modernity. Working exclusively with local Tibetans, instead of professional models, Nyema creates very authentic portraits of people who are trying to find their way in the globalized and modern "new” Tibet. What makes Nyema Droma so unique is not only her position as a witness and participant in the Millennium lifestyle within Tibet, but also the beginning of her artistic career that can be seen as a pioneer in Tibetan contemporary art. Nyema Droma’s photos were published in Tibet Geographic, Majestic Disorder Magazine, Prism Magazine, Croco Magazine and Geo Magazine (France) - Tibet Special; In 2015 she exhibited some of her photos at the Tsering Cheynga Mountain Museum (Lhasa, Tibet) and participated in the exhibitions: "Himalayan Photography Exhibition" (2016 - Potala Square, Lhasa / Tibet); "ELA" | Exhibition of Tibetan Woman Artists (2017 - Lhasa, Tibet); Between November 2017 and January 2018 she presents her first solo exhibition “Either | Or" (Art Represent - London, United Kingdom).
